About MMA Future
A data-driven ranking system built to understand fighter performance beyond win/loss records. No hype, no bias — just numbers.
Why MMA Future exists
MMA rankings have long been shaped by narratives, popularity, and promotional interests. We believe the sport deserves a system grounded in what actually happens inside the cage.
Clarity over hype
We strip away narratives and social media noise. Every score is based on measurable in-cage output, not popularity or promotional push.
Performance > narrative
Wins and losses alone don’t tell the story. We measure how fighters win, against whom, and how consistently they perform round by round.
Transparency & iteration
Our methodology is open and evolving. When we find a better way to weight a variable, we publish the change and explain why.
How the scoring works
The MMA Future Score is a composite metric that evaluates a fighter’s recent performance relative to competition quality. It is not a prediction tool — it’s a retrospective measure of demonstrated ability.
Inputs
Adjustments
Recency decay, opponent calibration, activity modifiers, and promotion-depth factor are applied.
Final Score
0 – 100
Per-fighter composite
Key Principles
- Recent fights matter more than older ones
- Quality of opponent is weighted heavily
- Finishes are scored higher than decisions
- Inactivity gradually reduces a fighter’s score
- Consistency across fights reduces volatility
- Short-notice fights carry adjusted weighting

Sample DataWhere the data comes from
We aggregate publicly available fight results and round-level statistics from major MMA promotions. Data is collected, cleaned, and verified before entering the scoring pipeline.
Data sources
Fight results, round-by-round stats, and event metadata are collected from publicly available sources across UFC, PFL, Bellator, and ONE Championship.
Update schedule
Rankings refresh every Monday. Scores update within 48 hours of an event’s completion. Historical data is re-calibrated quarterly.
Known limitations
Amateur records are excluded. Regional promotions with limited data may have less accurate opponent-quality adjustments. We’re transparent about gaps.
Disclaimer: MMA Future is an independent analytics project. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the UFC, PFL, Bellator, ONE Championship, or any other combat sports promotion. All data is sourced from publicly available records.
Frequently asked questions
Common questions about the MMA Future Score and ranking methodology.
Does the score predict who wins?
No. The MMA Future Score is a retrospective performance metric, not a predictive model. It tells you how well a fighter has performed relative to their competition — not who will win next.
Why does a fighter’s score go up after a loss?
Because the score measures performance quality, not just the outcome. A competitive loss against elite opposition can still improve a fighter’s rating if the underlying metrics are strong.
How do short-notice fights affect scoring?
Short-notice bouts carry adjusted weighting. We account for preparation time and opponent changes so fighters aren’t overly penalized (or rewarded) for late replacements.
Can I suggest a correction?
Yes. If you spot an error in results, opponent mapping, or event data, contact us with a link and we’ll review it in the next update cycle.
How often do rankings update?
Rankings refresh weekly, with post-event updates typically applied within 48 hours after an event concludes.
Does promotion strength matter?
Yes. We apply a promotion-depth factor so performance in deeper talent pools is calibrated appropriately, while still rewarding dominant in-cage output.
Is MMA Future affiliated with the UFC?
No. MMA Future is an independent analytics project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the UFC or any other promotion.

I built MMA Future because I got tired of seeing rankings that rewarded hype over performance. The sport deserves better data — and fans deserve transparency about how that data works.
